I was just digging the old blogs and incomplete posts and bumped into this one! I had actually started writing on this topic, way back in 2009, Ahem! I know, its too late to continue writing here...but that's perfectly fine! Better late than never.
Yes, my perspective of Nila Choru, way back in 2009 was to express my feelings of Nila Choru and now in 2015 is to express my inability to continue doing it with my little one! Life changes, priorities change and so robotic we become, that we forget things that used to bring happiness to us!
Nila Choru- Or the moon light dinner, brings back tons of memories, of my dinner time with my granny and Theju's dinner time with me when we were in Kanpur and Gwalior! No matter what, Nila choru always brings a lot of emotions and untold stories!
Around a 15 cousins getting together at my nani's place, sitting in a circle and granny reciting stories and giving each of us nila choru takes me back to my childhood! Nostalgic and heartwarming!
As stories unfold and most of you know, my struggle towards making my little brat, eat something, was growing day by day and I was always defeated in this struggle, I suddenly decided one day to try out the Nila Choru concept! Our own small terrace attached to our bedroom, served its purpose here!
While she found it really interesting that mamma spent time with her, reciting stories of her own childhood, I found it another way to spend quality time with my little one. I realized, the time I spent with her, was more valuable than the food I fed her. We used to laugh together, sit and watch the moon as a family, Raghav used to contribute to the stories every now and then and every morsel of food, she ate, made me feel like I had won! The mom and dau duo used to keep waiting for this time every night, as it was our exclusive time! No phones, no TV, no computer...it was only family time! Oh and my little one would laugh with me for every stupid joke that I might crack!
Back to the present days...what happened to the Nila and Choru? Well, we have a bigger terrace, Theju has grown up, I have got busier, Raghav comes home late. All of us eat at different timings. Nila Choru has been forgotten long back!
No...I am not gonna complain now, that I have no time for this! I kept telling Theju as I type, that we would go back to the concept of Nila choru, she seemed happy, let me anyways check that practically!

My little, elegant girl!
13 years ago, a tiny little angel was born to us! Those tiny fingers, rosy lips, rough skin! I could so connect to her as soon as I was announced preggies! I was elated to know, it was a girllll! I knew, now I have a friend for life, a shoulder to cry and a support for life!
Suddenly from a toddler to a school goer to a tween now! I dont even know where did time fly so soon...! From a little girl, she is now almost my height! Scolds me if I dont eat properly, takes care of me when I am sick, cries with me when I cry, Laughs with me when I laugh. Comes running to the airport no matter how late I come back after my travel. Hugs me when I need it the most. Btw, She just walked in and wished me all the best, when she came to know, I have started writing again!
She's almost there, growing up faster than I wish! She would turn into a young little woman very soon! I was thinking of that event and wrote down my thoughts as a tamil poem! Do enjoy!

( Translation: Whenever my little girls shouts for help from the bathroom, I tremble fearing the worst....
Though I am a science graduate, a teacher in science once, my logical explanations fail in front of emotions of a mom!)

I know very soon, she is gonna be that little woman, a woman capable of taking her own decisions, a woman where I would see myself in her! But the hard reality is miss my little baby already! I do really!
Water water everywhere, Not a drop to drink!
Varuna Bhagwan was probably very very happy with Chennaites behaviour and decided to treat us with his lovuuuu! Lovuunnnaaa lovuuuu, apdi oru lovuuuu!
From drizzles to showers to thunder storm to floods! Apdi ipdinnu, we were running the show until last week, when finally even the corporates gave up and announced holidays! ( Oh ya...the special economic zone is specially affected, images later). Our geography knowledge increased with a whole lot of lakes flashing in news!
The so called National media decided to give more importance to the Paris killings while its own citizens were dying here due to a natural calamity! 2 minutes silence for those presstitutes who run behind only TRP's!
While someone was irritated the pizzas ordered did not turn up on time, Someone was angered over maid being on leave for more than 3 days, Someone politicized the entire episode, but we had thousands of them waiting for some relief, some respite from the rains..!
Heartbreaking news on Government hospitals flooded, buses submerged in water, subways filled with water, Some areas cut off as islands...many incidents that came to light, somewhere forced us to think, where did we go wrong?
October and November are our months of monsoons, cyclones and depressions are part of the monthly schedules in Chennai, yet missed to be prepared for a natural calamity? Our Town planning has been so pathetic, that it gave up within days of heavy rains! Our water saving techniques are big time failures, the irony being, we fight for water for 6 months, yet did not have any water saving technique! We have opened up gallons and gallons of water to our seas!
Nature decided to teach each of us a lesson this year! Someone who would have boasted of owning a 3 BHK apartment in a Suburb would have repented his decision! Someone who would have been proud of belonging to the SEZ would have been flabbergasted seeing the posh office premises! Some parent who must have gone around publicizing his son's admission in one of the reputed engineering colleges must have heartbroken to see the college campuses becoming islands! For once, where the people who live in the slums, in low lying areas were not the only ones affected. Irrespective of one being a top notch professional to a rickshaw puller was affected this time!
May the Samaritans who risked their lives and went around distributing food and the essentials, live long, happily and be blessed with good health! Many people opted to give shelter in their vacant flats for people who had gone homeless! Some had opted to share food with the needy! Humanity is definitely alive and will stay alive!
Hearing of stories of people waiting for some drinking water and food, makes it evident, no matter how rich one is, everyone is equal in the eyes of Nature!
A one line verdict to each of us, Nature does not care who you are, if you do not take care of her!

Let's Cook baby!!!
Oh well, most people associated with me on an everyday basis are already nodding their heads in denial! They know me...Either I coooookkkk or don'tttttt cook...! I belong to extremes basically, either cook a feast or cook nothing! In all efforts to make myself move from a novice to a fresher to an entry level cook, I can happily pat myself to have graduated to a Paadhi chef!
I am not a very sophisticated cook...( You rarely would find ingredients that are not available in your pantry)
I don't generally make it sound exotic ( Veetla irukra kaaigariya vechu, lets cook baby)
My recipes are generally simple and so is my food! Simbly homely and delicious!
Ithu verum trailer thaan....Main padam baaki! Will come back with more soon!

Maggi Returns.....
Well, on the auspicious day of Diwali, the ever so famous junk food of India returns....!
Oh Yeah, It returned in style along with Laloo! So the title could also be Maggi returns and so does Laloo...but let me keep the title simple!
Maggi, maggi, maggi- Dating back to around 1995 when Maggi was a very expensive affair at home. Mamma used to threaten us, she would not buy Maggi in the monthly ration, if we do not behave well. Maggi was always a weekend affair at home! I used to wake up without an alarm, when Maggi was planned for a Sunday breakfast.
Peeling onions, cutting veggies, helping mamma was the little somethings that we used to get to eat Maggi. Each of us got 1 packet of Maggi and the second serving was always eyed upon. We always wished, appa would say a NO to the second serving, so we get some extra spoons of Maggi.
Oh no, we neither read what nutritional value it offered nor did Mamma worry about junk food then! Quite likely cos we did not have any more store bought food in the shelves, so we could do with 1 junk breakfast once in a month!
Fast Forward, newly wed couple at Kanpur, electricity always played hide and seek and the only saviour for dinners used to be Maggi. Thanks to the CSD's that offered it at a subsidized cost! Imagine, I had even invited people over for dinner and served them Maggi! ( Kadankaarinnu thitti irupaanga...but thats Ok)
Then started this era of mom of a toddler where like every mom, I wanted my kid to EAT. Yeah, you heard it right, EAT...SOMETHING. Maggi was my saviour again ( I know I know, I am judged but anything for my kid). A kid that did not want to eat anything was enjoying Maggi...Woah, So something was there in this Maggi ( Oh very recently, I came to know it was lead).
Chill winters, early morning breakfasts, sudden hunger pangs...maggi it was. When all was fine, came the news, Maggi was banned.... Nooooo....Most working woman's saviour, bachelors's friend, Kid's favorite....I could see people getting disheartened but what to do...they needed to act smart in Social media atleast! Very few genuinely agreed, they are disheartened with the ban while most of them suddenly got very conscious of junk food and its after effects ( ada paavingala, tea kadai bajjiya mukki mukki thinuttu, inga FBla scene).....
Ennavo po...Maggi returns. Naalaikku, going by tradition of Mom, enga veetla Maggi...Appo unga veetla???
